Swell Spots began as mini-solutions to the big challenge of lymphedema. News spread, and hand therapists and other professionals now use them to meet a wide range of rehabilitation needs, such as problematic areas of swelling, tissue fibrosis, and contouring over and around boney prominences. Wherever there is a pocket of swelling there are Swell Spots to fit the job.

Designed by Joanne Pickett, OTR, and Judy Warnke, OTR, for the pocket of swelling found in the thenar web space. Patients are instructed to tuck the pad under their edema glove thumb seam to disperse pressure and encourage lymph drainage "along this sweet spot." Joanne and Judy report that this little pad is perfect to soften scars from carpal tunnel surgery. "We use it wherever there is thick scarring or swelling for hand patients."
The Academy of Lymphatic Studies is the premier source for Lymphedema Management and Manual Lymph Drainage Certification courses and training among medical professionals and therapists around the world.
